American Soldier

A. I think the most powerful image is the huge farewell photo which captures Ian saying goodbye to loved ones before he goes off. I think this is the most powerful image because of the story behind it. You can see the fear in his eyes and you can tell from his expression he is going to miss his family and friends.

B. Together these images tell a story. They create powerful visuals for what it is like leaving everything behind to serve for your country.

C. The captions add to the story by telling readers what is happening in the photo that are not already apparent.

D. At a young age Ian Fisher decides he wants to join the military and after being recruited, starts his journey as an American soldier.

F. Captions

  1. 2 sentences on average
  2. †hey provide information about what is happening in the photo
  3. They provide information that is not included in the photo
  4. They include quotes in the third sentence.
  5. Yes they do in the third sentence
  6. Yes
G. I think some of the emotions in the photos are very strong and help tell a powerful story.

H. I think the story tells you things the photos and captions don't. It helps you fill in the spaces and create images in your head that are not provided.

Ethics in Fashion

1. Many changes were made to the model to make her fit certain beauty standards. Some of the changes that were made include...

  • changing her hair a bit
  • enlarging her eyes
  • stretching her neck
  • making her shoulders and face thinner
  • bringing her eyes further down
  • adding a slight bit of makeup
2. The model's body, face and hair in the end are are completely different from what she actually looks like. Changes to the model's body include...
  • enlarging her eyes
  • changing her hair slightly
  • lightening her skin tone and smoothing her skin
  • picking her shoulders up
  • extending her arms and legs
  • making her stomach and neck appear thinner
  • changing her nose and lips
  • and extending her neck
  • changing her feet and toes
3.  Changes made were...
  • making the pizza into a person
  • adding clothes
4. I think it's acceptable to change a person's appearance slightly if they are okay with it, It isn't being used to manipulate others, and it is know that the person's appearance is altered if the photo is being used in advertising.

5. Yes, there are absolutely certain situations which it is more ethically wrong to manipulate photos. If the subject or model does not want their appearance changed and you change it anyways that is very wrong and could hurt them and damage their self esteem.

6. I think getting rid of blemishes or maybe touching up some of the model's insecurities is okay, ONLY if they ask you to. I don't think it's okay to completely change the way someone looks.

7.  I think photojournalism is more about taking photos of certain events that are interesting or some things that should be shared. I think fashion photography is about a model.

8. I think all photography is about capturing and sharing beautiful moments. When photos are manipulated and altered, it takes away from the moment you captured and it is no longer realistic.

9. I think you are showing us these videos to teach us about what is ethically right and wrong. I think we can learn from it and make a difference.

10. I think it i more socially acceptable for men to look any way they to look whereas women are set to nearly impossible to achieve beauty standards. Women are often photoshopped to achieve these standards.

Funny captions

Caption 1: Carol and Jerry racing to the finish while representing their favorite drink companies. In the end they finished neck and neck and later went on to share some refreshments and cool down from their brutal race.

Caption 2: Jerry decides to take his winning scooter out to get a treat from Wendy's. A year after the race Jerry decided it was time to move on from the exhilarating racing life but continues to ride his favorite scooter EVERYWHERE.

Caption 3: Susie is quite confused about the laughter filling the room after her husband, Jim tells her to look through his pair of binoculars. Susie was very clueless about the situation and continued to look through the binoculars to get a better look at what was so funny.

Mural Project preview

1) I think we could photograph food, different types of plants, unique textures or things Austin is well known for.

2) We we will have to think about aperture, ISO and shutter speed.

3) I think we could use instagram to post these photos on a new account, possibly use pinterest or just use our blogs.
